Nicholas - Recognition of Chinese Words

Nicholas's preschool Chinese teacher is doing a very good job in teaching them the Chinese character writing and reading. As compared to his sisters when they were in kindergarten, he is speaking very good complete sentence and thus, it didn't cross my mind in sending him for any enrichment classes.

However, after hearing from friends their testimony about this enrichment center, decided to just send him there to enrich him further. And it is indeed very good. Even the girls commented that Nicholas is so lucky to have a good preschool teacher and now a good interesting enrichment center!

In the center, they learned Chinese idioms every week in a fun way and he was so excited with what he had learned after the first lesson.

He was so eager to show me what he had learned and we had this conversation...

Nicholas : mummy, you know how what is the meaning of "人山人海"?!
Me : hmm...let me think... is it "people mountain people sea" ?
Nicholas: hahaha...I know you will say that! No, it means there is a lot of people, very crowded!

The page that he read in the video was taught by the center and he was able to read it without any help after going through with him once at home.

Hope he will develop an interest in Chinese and will not struggle with it when he enters Primary school.

Ryan @ 34months

Photobucket

A collection of his speech for this month
  • Not knowing that the McWings are spicy, I gave one to him. He took a bite and said, "Hot! Burn my tongue! This one not nice, French Fries nice!"
  • After dinner, the 3 big ones each grab a handful of M&M as treats for eating their food fast. He saw me throwing the empty packet of M&M into the garbage bag, he then took it out and complain to helper "jiejie Rachel eats, jiejie Charmaine eats, koror eats, I don't have" in his pathetic voice! Aiyo!
  • We were in the cinema and he started climbing down and wants to walk to the front. When I asked him why, he told me "one people block me! I cannot see!"
  • Got him to do some colouring with pencil, after a while, he told me this "you colour for me. I'm busy."
  •  When he sees or read something funny or unrealistic, he will comment , "How can it be?!" and laugh in his cheeky way.
  • He saw that I had a little cut on my foot and said this to me "mommy, I call ambulance!"
  • Once I asked him "Are you mommy's baby?" He replied: "No. I'm mommy's big boy!"

His playing with words

Had this little conversation with my cheeky boy when we were on the way to his chess lesson. No discrimination here....just pure kid's innocent talk.

Nicholas: Why GM E speaks in a funny way?

Me: because he is from Russia. He is a Russian.

Nicholas (laughing cheekily): What!? You mean the people there always "rush" here and there?!! Hahahaha!!!

DUCK

Nicholas started to use phonic to spell simple words and so far, he is doing quite good.

But sometimes he can be cheeky in his spelling too. Like what happen this morning...

Me: Nicholas, can you spell "duck" for me?

Nicholas (thinking and trying to sound the word): D...U....k

Me: nope. It's D U C K.

Immediately he replied with a cheeky smile : you mean "did you see K" ? O...hahaha...I can see it!

Nicholas' Prayer

Nicholas loves hugging and kissing Ryan but whenever one of them is down, I forbid him from doing so. Its like a "punishment" to him not being able to do so.

And today, Ryan was down with fever and Nicholas suggested that we should pray for him. So we gather together around Ryan and Nicholas said this prayer...

"Father God, dear Jesus,
please help Ryan recover faster
so I can love him and hug him.
In Jesus's name, Amen."

Another conversation with my darling...

Brought Charmaine & Nicholas out to get birthday present for Rachel today.

While Charmaine went around the shop choosing the present for her sister, the little boy saw this toy police car and pestered non-stop if I can buy it for him. Next he saw a train and asked again holding both the toys.

Me: Let me think first. If you behave, maybe I'll get for you.

Nic: ok mommy. Maybe we can get two.

And as we shop, he kept repeating this sentence, partially directed to me, partially trying to convinced himself that mommy is gonna buy both for him "Maybe mommy get two right, mommy?"

Since he was so well behave and the toys is very cheap, I bought both for him. While we was walking toward our car, we passed this popular fair and this little rascal saw this!

His immediate words was "OHH!! Look Mommy! Mommy, i bought the car and train for jiejie Charmaine. Can I have this, please mommy?" what a fast twist of words!

I admit I have a soft spot toward my dear boy. Mommy sayang the boys and daddy sayang the girls. That's why the saying goes : Mommy's boy and Daddy's girls.

Anyway, bought it too on the condition that he share it with baby Ryan and he promised. I am now training him to be bolder and thus gave him the exact amount and ask him to pay it at the cashier which he gamely did. (He'll do anything just to get what he wants)

He loves it so much he held on to the bag all the way the the car and even after we reached home. When he saw our helper, he told helper that he has to eat his food fast and be good boy then mommy will let him open the box to play with the truck. Isn't he a good boy? I didn't even said that to him!

Our Little Conversation

Nowadays, Nicholas likes to blink his eyes whenever he is being asked a question. Don't want it to become a habit, so told him to stop doing it.

Mommy: Nic, Can you don't blink your eyes?

Nic (tried hard not to blink): I cannot don't blink my eyes, mommy.

Mommy: Why not? You can blink but not like that (keep blinking)

Nic (after some thoughts): I have to blink my eyes, mommy. If I don't blink my eyes, it means I am dreaming. If I blink, I not dreaming.
Laugh

Isn't that cute?! Found out later that he had learnt it from his teacher...hmm...my dear boy must be day dreaming in class.
