To make Little Nic stop crying whenever he fell and bumped into something, we will pretend to hit the floor or whatever that he bumped into and scold it for being "naughty" to make Little Nic fall...sound silly hor but it helps soothe his anger (wonder if other mommies do that too?)
Now that he is older, he copied what we did. : { Whenever he fell or bumped onto things, he will scold the floor and hit it. That's not enough! He will make sure the entire family knows about the "naughty" floor by bringing us to the source and make sure we hit it too. Sometimes he caught me at a time that I'm busy and I told him to wait. The Little-Mr-Impatient will pull and pull until I give in to him.
I knew this is wrong and should have stop him, but sometimes, its just so funny to look at. Wonder should I stop him from "hitting" back or just hope he will grow out of it soon??

Yes, I've came across usually elderly people likes to do this. Make sure you don't encourage him to hit the 'naughty floor' otherwise he'll pick up the bad habit of hitting people. My MIL babysit a 2 yr old kid since baby and he tends to hit people back when someone teased or made him cry. Even now, he's still got the habit of hitting lightly at anyone when he walks by... hands itchy!
*laugh* My in-law's do that to all their grandchildren...and yup, the toddlers have the same reaction as little nic.
well the grew out of it mainly because they hardly fall down already...so the habit is broken by itself...
my mom n mil does the same. i did that once but hubby rebuke me coz that's wrong teaching he said...but to me, that's the fastest way to get them to stop cyring. hor hor? =D
hi, just dropping by. you have a very cute boy. I was tempted to do that when Mal was young :)
Hi
I see my fil and dad doing that too but I don't encourage cos they may start hitting other people also, then very hard to correct the habit.
i also dun encourage this act too. they might get this as habit when grow up.
lol...this is funny. we don't do that but my mum does it when ashley was younger. she also copied her grandma but now she longer does that :D
Thanks everyone for your kind advice. I realised that was wrong too and so now discouraging him and my maid to do that.
Hi 4malmal
Thanks for dropping by and the compliments. I'm glad you did not fall into temptation...
Hi Miche
Its indeed the fastest way but *sigh* also the wrong teaching like your hubby said it.
hahahahaa....
I remember when i was a little girl, my mom would tell me that she would carpet the area whenever I fell or hit myself (even it is outside the house) and I DID BELIEVE her. How innocent was I that time...it did really calm me down.
I believe he will grow out of it. So no need to be too particular about it.
Hi baby darren, *sigh* we learnt this habit too from my mom and MIL...hope he will grow out of it but also got to stop leading him on..
Hi,
When I was young, my parents also use the same tactic. I was about to do the same with my little Reese and my husband stopped me. He said, by doing so, you are only encouraging him to blame others for his own mistakes!! After much thinking, it's true. So maybe it's a good time now to stop him from doing so!! :)
Hi Gift from god
Thanhks for sharing your hubby's advice...I stopped encouraging him to do that and also told my maid not to do it too.
Thanks so much for your kind advice.
