He fell again...

I was out sending the girls to school when it happen.  By the time I got home, he had already stop crying and enjoying his breakfast. And from the way the helper had describe, I thought it was just a minor fall from the bottom of the steps till Nicholas shown personally where and how it happen...I was horrified!

SmileyCentral.com
The glass panel was shattered on Saturday and I had already blocked up the place and reminded the kids not to go near it.

 The shattered glass panel...

But this little poor boy came out of his room this morning and walked towards the area where the glass panel used to be. Nicholas chased out to call him back but he thought Nicholas was playing with him and he squeeze through the gap and fell 1/2 mtr down with his head landing on the steps first and rolled down the remaining steps.

 The height he fell from...

Nicholas was so shocked that he cried and screamed while helper dashed up to check what happen. Helper immediately carried Ryan and comfort him. She also boiled egg to "massage" Ryan. Beside the small "mountain" at the back of his head, he was okay. Since he is okay, I did not bring him to hospital but when his daddy found out, he persuaded me to send him to KK Hospital to have a complete check. So brought him there but was told by the nurse to go home and observe him instead...

For the next few days, he refuses to go near accident site.

Thank God for his protection over this little boy! The unthinkable outcome is frightening now when we think back...he could have fracture his skull, break his neck/spinal cord, paralyse, brain damage or even die!!! Thank GOD for answering our nightly prayer!

First Puff

Baby Ryan had been coughing and having running nose for the past few days and it got worst yesterday. So brought him to the doctor today and there's very slight wheezing heard. Doctor gave him his first "Puff" to clear his lungs. Couldn't take any photos as I have to hold him while the doctor gave him the mask.

He is better at this than his korkor Nicholas. Nicholas cried and screamed when he was first given but Baby Ryan just sat there and only occasionally tried to push the mask away. Not much fuss or cries. Born in the year of an Ox, a tougher boy??

Baby Ryan Is Sick Again...

*sigh* Baby Ryan is down with cough, stuffy nose and fever again.

His itchiness of the throat began on Saturday and by Sunday, he gone into full fledged phlegmy cough and stuffy nose. His fever about 37.5 degrees came on around evening and I started sponging him. It hovers around that range until about 5am in the morning. Measured him while feeding, his temperate gone up to 38.5degrees and his lips are very red. Fed him a dose of paracetamol and his fever subsided.

Brought him to the doctor this morning to get medicine for his cough and stuffy nose..So glad that his lungs are still clear.

As I was needed in the office, went back there with the girls and baby Ryan. He had disturbed nap most of the time and cried when I fed him. Guessed he could not breathe while sucking thus, very frustrated.

Hubby was very sweet to suggest that he take over the 3 older ones while I rest at home with baby. He told the kids to finish their dinner within half an hour and he will bring them for a movie. The kids ate super fast! Within 20minutes, they were done!! So different from their usual meal time which could last to almost an hour, and their dinner was not even a 10 course meal..just 1 vegetable + meat + soup!

*Oops* He is crying now..time for medicine and milk...Just pray that he recovers soon..

Baby Ryan Down With Fever

His fever started on Monday morning, about 5am. Gave him 1ml of Paracetamol. His fever comes back on again at about 2pm and gave him another dose. Other than being a little more grumpy, he was active and smiling when played with.

Paed said to monitor him for another day, if the fever persist, then will have to bring him to her. He has slight running nose too. Just hope its not H1N1.
Thought breastfed babies are supposed to be stronger? Wonder why baby Ryan so weak? Wonder what I should eat so my milk will be good booster for his immune system?

Check up @ 2months & 23 days old

Was debating whether to give him the Pneumococcal & rotavirus vaccine. Rotavirus is the leading single cause of severe diarrhoea among infants and young children while Pneumococcal disease is an infection caused by a type of bacteria called Streptococcus pneumoniae. When these bacteria invade the lungs, they cause the most common kind of bacterial pneumonia and can then invade the bloodstream and/or the tissues and fluids surrounding the brain and spinal cord (meningitis). Another common complication is infection of the middle ear (otitis media).

The Pneumococcal seems more serious, so in the end, decided to just go ahead with just the Pneumococcal vaccines and skip the Rotavirus one. And today was his 6 in 1 jab too, so he was to have 2 jab altogether.

The paed asked if I want to nurse him while they jab as this jab would be very painful, I was quite cool about it and told them its ok. I thought it would be one after another but to my shock / surprise, the paed and her nurse each standing at one side of his thigh, and without even the need to count 1 2 3, they poked in together! 2 jab at one go!! Baby Ryan cried, though not very loudly, probably caused more by the shocked than the pain!

He was a real tough boy, stop crying in less than a minute. Probably he got more fats in his thigh, thus not so painful. Paed told us to monitor him for fever this two days.

Paed also asked to put him more on his tummy to get him to exercise his neck and tummy muscle.

The Paed checked on his belly button too and said its hernia. Its very common and said to give him till 6 months for it to get back to "normal". I mentioned that its like balloon. She said nothing to worry, its the intestine in there and very seldom will they need operation.

And Paed observed that he has slight Enzyma. Remedy? Keep him cool.

As for the greenish watery stools, she said she is not at all concern if I am still 100% breastfeeding him.

His weight gain was very satisfactory.

Weight : 6.255kg

Length: 58.5cm

His weight and height are on the 90 percentile. hmm..thinking back, I was still worried when my gynae said he will be a short boy during one of those check up.

His Belly Button

This is how his belly button look like. Funny? Its like mine when I'm pregnant. Its soft and can feel the "air" when I try to press it down. Wonder if its normal. Must remember to asked Paed during the next check up.

Any one of yours have the same?

Tiring Week

We brought him out on Monday and Tuesday to see his 2 jiejie's school performances and helper carried him in a sling throughout (She finds pram to troublesome). So my dear Prince Ryan got so used to being carried and refuses to be placed on the bed NOW! Whenever his buttock touches the bed, he would go crying!!! This happen even when his eyes were close!

So, I have no choice but to hug him and sleep together sometimes. This way, he can at least sleep 2 hours and I can have my rest too.

And when I'm not sleeping with him, I have to carry him till he is deep asleep and placed him down on the bed gently on his tummy. But I really don't like this position but seeing that he has good head control now, I just have to check on him every now and then to make sure he does not suffocate himself.

We have sarong at home (hand me down from Rachel) but I'm trying not to use it. Firstly, if the baby got "hook" to sleeping in sarong, then if we were to travel, we will be in trouble without one.

Secondly, I seen Rachel sleep facing downwards (nose pressed against the sarong). I'm afraid it might suffocate him if no one watches.

Thirdly, though no scientific proof, hubby worried that sleeping in sarong will cause one to hunch.

Ain't I glad his naughtiness only kicks in now than earlier (during the exam period). And Nicholas is down with high fever and vomits the whole of last night. He is extremely touchy, whining the whole time. But even how uncomfortable he felt, he still misses his baby brother, wanting to sayang and play with him. We have to explain to him that he is sick and he might pass the germs to baby again. He understood and kept away from him as long as his little brain can remember.

*gosh* Its tired handling these 2 "terror" now.. If this were to happen during the exam period, I doubt I will still have any hair left... hahaha...

His First illness

Nicholas was down with flu and cough on Tuesday. No matter how we avoid contact of the two and keeping good ventilation, the germs/ virus some how still got to baby Ryan. He had stuffy nose yesterday and had a little difficulties feeding.

His stuffy nose got worse today, struggling to breathe and suck at the same time. Seeing him this way makes my heart ache. And sometimes, his mucus would flow backward and he got choke on it and cough...heehee..the way he cough just like his brother when Nicholas was a baby...the old man" type of cough.

Brought him to Paed, got a nose drop for him. He is very co-operative with it, no fussing/ crying when i drip the nose drop into his nostrils. After applying, he seems better. Hope he recovers soon. Oh, we were told to monitor his temperature too. Should his temperate goes above 37.5 degrees, we are to bring him down to KK Hospital immediately...Doctor said that we have to extra careful with babies under 3 months old as their immune system is weak.

Check up @ 5 weeks old

When you have 4 kids to handle, time really zoomed past without one knowing! Its 5 weeks since little fellow come to this world and we are back at the Paed for his first month check up.

When the nurse weighs him, I'm not surprise at his weight gain..almost 1.5kg given the amount of milk he is drinking! He suckled so much that my breast "muscle" ache!!

And he is still waking up 2 - 3 times for the night feed. Sometimes, I really feel like just expressing the milk and let the maid handle the night feed but I told myself that this is my last baby and I want to enjoy the body contact and everything of direct breastfeeding. Also, someone ever told me this "Why give (expressed) bottle when you can feed directly? Its fresher. And you never know if any nutrients got loss when you warm the milk."

He is a night owl too! He will sleep throughout the day and waking up only at 10pm. His eyes by then will be as BIG as marble and he can last all the way to 1am some nights! Mommy sometimes dozed off chatting with him but he will make noises to ensure I keep up with him!

He still has mild jaundice and Paed said to monitor him for another 2 weeks. If the jaundice persist, we will have to do a blood test to ensure the liver is ok. But at the meantime, no more tanning for him. Now he has to depends on his own body system to "discharge" the jaundice.

Painful Rememberance

After Charmaine's School Charity carnival, we pop over to my in-law's place. They really missed the grandchildren and started pampering them with treats.

Then, MIL brought little Nic to the kitchen and place him near the stove not knowing that her maid had just finished cooking noodle on it. And when she came out with him, he was still happily running around playing. Then, jiejie suddenly shouted for our attention to look at little boy's thigh and saw this!

It looks painful but surprisingly, he didn't cry at all. Told him its a burnt mark and this is a result of going near hot things. Since then, he kept pointing at the mark and says "next time don't go kitchen"

Bonding Time With Daddy

Hubby pity me for working non-stop round the clock and told me he will take over the kids every Sunday afternoon so I can have a break. It's also a great bonding time for them.

Since he is not one that can sit down and read a book to the kids type, he decided to do sports with them. This way, they will be out of the house and I can have about 2-3 hours of ME-time too. This arrangement suits all of us fine. I am not very sport-active type, so I gladly hand over this "Physical Education" programme to hubby. Goofy

Their usual activities? Swimming downstairs.

Swimming

But with little Nicholas becoming more active, it had since progressed on with more intense exercise. They usually starts with some "warm-up" exercise like playing with the basket balls. With 3 of them, they took 2 balls and do those passing game. Hubby says this helps to improve their hand-eye co-ordination. Little Nicholas is too young to play this game, but he doesn't want to be left out. So he played the "Monkey" role.

Basketball 2

After the warming up, hubby makes the 2 girls run round the track twice. Its a proper running track which means the girl ran 800m each! Hmm..doubt I can do even half the track now.

Sprinting

After taking a break, they will come back up and change into your swimsuit and go back down again. This time, to swim.

So you can guess, by the time they are back for dinner, they were like those "hungry ghost", gobbling down the food real fast! And they are so tired by bedtime that I do not need to keep asking them to stop talking and go to sleep. They knock-off within minutes of lying on the bed!

Hubby took some photos for me to see what they've been doing and I like this particular one. However, hubby said this photo doesn't come easy as he had to retake so many times to catch little Nicholas cheeky smile. But its all worth it, don't you agree?

Bad Cut

He was happily playing with his box of toys and the next moments, came the WAILING cry...

He had stepped onto the plastic cover with one leg and the other leg under the cover got the cut...complicated, right..mommy got no idea how he can do that too! With all the blood flowing out, no wonder he was CRYING so loudly!

@ 18 months

For all the past few jabs, I don't have any problem with him. He will just lie there and let the doctor jab without a struggle. But today, my gosh, he needs 3 persons to hold him down!!

Wonder was it because he has grown up already and knows what's happening or of the frequent Salbutamol "breathing torture" whenever he sees the doctor...?

When we got back home, he refuses to let us put him down onto the floor. He will wrap his legs around my maid or me and "cry" once his legs touches the ground! It suddenly occurs to me that it could be the pain from the injection. So we just let him mun jar for a while...

The funniest part is when he woke up from his afternoon nap, he actually walk with a limp!! My maid laughs and said he is trying to get our attention. Just like daddy... ; P

Up He Goes!

Today is the 13th day counting down from the first day his er jie first chicken pox symptom appear. I'm still keeping my fingers crossed that he will be EXCUSED this round. I heard from my sister that those who do not have the jab will have the whole body covered with the dots. I can't imagine that happening to him...

His fever has subsided and he is back to his active self again. He kind of "lost" his voice due to too much crying and coughing....poor baby

It's his dinner time and I told him to go to his walker first...and this is what he did!

Finally got his butt on the walker's tray...

Okay. I'm ready mum! Where's my food?
I didn't expect him to climb into his walker. What I meant as for him to bring his walker to me so I can carry him in. With him doing this kinda stunts, guess I need to put this walker away when no one is watching or accidents may happen...

Sleepness Night

*sigh*.. He's sick again...I'm still keeping my finger crossed that it's not Chicken Pox...

9.30pm...His temperature suddenly shoot up! Took his temperature (through ear)..it's 39.1 degree!!! Fed him with his usual Ibuprofen and paracetamol (I had to rotate these 2 medicine every 3 hourly) and his temperature is under control again... Grandma is very worried and try to convince his daddy and me to bring him to hospital..she kept saying that children with high fever will become retarded and this worries daddy. I had a hard time explaining to him what doctor had said...that the fever is a sign of the body fighting the virus and it will not cause the child to be retarded. I used to bring him to our family doctor every time he had a fever and was told by the doctor that we can just give him the medication and bring to him only if the fever doesn't subside after 3 days or if he is lethargic and restless...

He's fine during the day, playing and laughing...His terrible stunts was only reserved for the nights (after 1am when everyone is asleep..) He will cough and then followed by the "Merlion" stunt and this wakes everyone in the house. My maid used to be able to pacify him but this round, he doesn't wants her. He kept crying "mom meee! mom mee!" Although I had to wake up very early tomorrow morning to prepare his eldest sister's birthday party and would gladly leave him to my maid, but hearing him calling me in such a "pertatic" tone, I gather my strength and went into his room to take over from my maid.

Guess talking to him in a soothing manners help and I guess he can somehow feel my calm inside and he soon quiet down...I asked him in a soft tone if I can put him down, he gave me a nod and down he goes...I slept next to him with my hand on him so that whenever he tossed and turned, I quickly patted him back to sleep.

Being mummy is never easy job...

Counting My Blessing

Humans are short-sighted species and complain at every little things that befall unto them.

I'm not exempted. Been complaining why I was so unlucky this month...my prince got HFMD and now my 2nd princess got Chicken Pox! Its one of those "hair-pulling" episode and I think I'm getting a nervous breakdown soon (so worried that my prince will get the Chicken Pox from her as he has not been vaccinated yet!)

But after my quiet time today, I realised I have to thank God for all these! Why?

1. I thank God that his is a very mild case as compared to the current HFMD outbreak.

2. I thank God that he recovered in a very short period of time with no complications and scarring.

3. I thank God that my 2nd Princess was given two Chicken Pox's immunisation jab (one by mistake by the School). Due to this, her Chicken Pox is very, very mild and she recovered within 5 days with no scarring too!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my little prince will not get it. But should he caught it, I must remember to thank God that he caught it now and not later in adulthood which could be worst...

Hand-Foot-Mouth Disease

My maid called me this morning telling me that my boy's legs were bitten by a lot of mosquitoes. I told her to apply some cream for him and take his mattress out for sunning, in case it's bed bug and not mosquitoes.

When I got home, I was shocked to see blisters and not mosquitoes bite marks on his thigh! As he had a slight fever the day before, the first thing that came into my mind was Chicken Pox. I immediately quarantine him from his 2 jiejie and told my maid to wash all his toys and stuffs with Detol. While she is at it, I brought him down to our family doctor to have him check.

The doctor suspect it to be HFMD instead of Chicken Pox as he found 2 small ulcers in his mouth and the blister only appeared on his legs and not body. But as my boy is feeding fine, the doctor just gave him some cream to apply on the blisters and asked me to monitor him closely.

Poor boy, he's really very weak as compared to his 2 sisters. Seems to be that he will fall sick every 2 months...*sigh*..Wonder what i can do to boast his immune system...

Chesty Lung

He's been coughing and whizzing. Our doctor decided that the fastest way to clear his lungs would be to let him breathe in the medication instead of taking it orally.

Indeed he felt very much better after the inhaling session but it was a struggle to keep his head still when we have to count to 10.

First Set of Teeth

His 2 jiejie only started teething when they are around 9 months old and I was surprised to feel small bump on his gum today! My baby is teething at 6 months of age!

My maid said he must be a very greedy baby, can't wait to eat the nice food around him : )

First Fever

This morning, when I lifted him up, I felt my poor baby's body was a little warm and after taking his temperature confirmed that he is down with fever.

Now I know why he kept fidgeting and crying yesterday. He was trying to complain to me that he was not feeling well and I completely overlook it!

My maid said he's very "mun jar" (cry for attention at little things) like the daddy. ; P
